Private Health Insurance Reforms – how they affect your workout
As of April 1st, 2019, private health insurers are no longer providing extras cover for a range of natural therapies, including Pilates classes.
If a physiotherapist runs a class which is purely drawn from Pilates work, you are unable to claim this through your private health fund.
At Jenkins Physio we will be running physiotherapy-led exercises sessions in a similar format to those we have done in the past, however they will no longer be referred to as Clinical Pilates.
The class will be run as a mixture of exercises clinically relevant to your needs and goals, involving a mix of gym and Pilates equipment and other small equipment.
This may include theraband, weights or other tools which enable us to tailor exercises specifically to your needs.
Before attending a class, you will be required to undergo an individualised assessment, which will enable us to identify any areas which you wish to work on, as well as establishing your goals.
Your physiotherapist will record notes on your attendance and perform re-assessments as required. This allows your physiotherapy-led class to be covered by your private health insurance.
Physiotherapy sessions are claimable under the HICAPs codes 500 and 505.
The code used to claim your class is 560.
